TBC Uzbekistan Awarded Central Asia’s Best Digital Bank 2026 by Euromoney

In July 2026, Euromoney recognized TBC Bank Uzbekistan as Central Asia’s best digital bank — an acknowledgment that reflects not just a single year of strong performance, but the cumulative outcome of a deliberate, multi-year strategy to build a fully integrated digital financial platform from the ground up. The recognition arrives as TBC Uzbekistan closes 2025 having expanded its user base to 23 million registered customers, grown its loan portfolio to nearly $1 billion, and captured approximately 20% of the national payments market. Behind these numbers is an institution that has moved well beyond the challenger bank category to become one of the most consequential financial platforms operating in Central Asia today.

A Technology Architecture Built for Scale and Independence

The foundation of TBC Uzbekistan’s performance is an entirely in-house technology stack. Unlike banks that layer digital interfaces over inherited legacy infrastructure, TBC operates as a genuinely end-to-end digital institution — from customer acquisition and onboarding through payments, lending, and daily financial servicing. This architecture, built and maintained by internal engineering teams, drives meaningful cost advantages across the full business model and allows the bank to iterate far faster than competitors reliant on third-party systems.

“What we have is a fully digital bank, not just a digital front end,” explains CFO Sharof Sharipov. “Our entire technology stack is built in-house, which drives lower acquisition and servicing costs.” The implications extend beyond efficiency: proprietary infrastructure gives TBC the ability to integrate new products without external dependencies, maintain tighter data governance, and deploy AI capabilities directly into core customer journeys with full control over performance and reliability.

A Two-Sided Ecosystem Connecting Consumers and Businesses

Central to TBC Uzbekistan’s model is a deliberately constructed two-sided platform that links individual customers and small businesses through a shared digital environment. Consumer-facing products — payments, cash loans, credit cards, BNPL, insurance, and subscription services — are designed to drive daily engagement and increase the number of financial services each customer actively uses. On the business side, fully digital SME banking tools, including payment acceptance, working capital lending, and operational software, enable small enterprises to manage their finances entirely within the TBC ecosystem.

This dual structure generates compounding network effects: as more consumers transact through TBC’s platforms, the ecosystem becomes more valuable to business users, which in turn deepens consumer engagement further. It is a model built not for single-product acquisition but for sustained, habitual financial platform usage.

Digital Financial Engagement and the Demand for Real-Time Data

The rapid adoption of digital financial platforms across Uzbekistan reflects a broader regional shift in how citizens engage with money on a day-to-day basis. Users increasingly expect to manage payments, access credit, and monitor financial conditions in real time — all from a single interface and without friction. The sustained and growing search interest around terms like “доллар рубль курс” and “dollar rubl kursi” illustrates the depth of financial data consumption already embedded in everyday digital behavior across the CIS region. Platforms capable of serving these needs — combining transactional functionality with timely financial information and intelligent servicing — are positioned to capture the kind of habitual daily engagement that defines a primary financial relationship. This is precisely the position TBC Uzbekistan’s integrated ecosystem is structured to occupy.

Payments and Lending Reach Ecosystem Scale

Payments are the highest-frequency entry point into TBC Uzbekistan’s ecosystem, and the 2025 figures reflect their centrality to the model. Payme and TBC Bank combined processed $9.2 billion in payment volumes during the year, accounting for roughly one-fifth of all national payment activity. This level of market penetration supports the high-frequency daily usage that keeps TBC central to how millions of Uzbek consumers manage their financial lives and reinforces the platform’s value to business users operating within the same environment.

Lending has expanded in parallel, with the total loan portfolio reaching approximately $946 million across cash loans, credit cards, and BNPL products. The buy-now-pay-later offering — embedded directly within the payments application — has been a particularly distinctive element of the bank’s product strategy.

“We embedded BNPL directly into the payments app,” says CEO Nika Kurdiani. “It’s literally a toggle at checkout — what we call the fastest loan in the world.” The design logic behind this reflects TBC’s broader philosophy: credit should be available at the precise moment of need, not accessed through a separate and friction-heavy application process.

User Growth That Reflects Platform Depth, Not Just Registration

By the end of 2025, TBC Uzbekistan had 23 million registered users — an increase of 4.6 million over the prior year — alongside approximately six million monthly active users. In a country of around 37 million people, these figures represent substantial penetration of the addressable adult population and position TBC as one of the most widely used digital platforms in Uzbekistan, extending well beyond its identity as a bank.

The Lola AI assistant has become increasingly prominent across these interactions, handling customer servicing queries and enabling more responsive, scalable support without proportional cost increases. As AI capabilities mature within the platform, they are expected to further personalize product recommendations and improve conversion across the customer lifecycle.

Profitability at Scale — A Defining Outcome

Perhaps the most significant aspect of TBC Uzbekistan’s 2025 performance is that it achieved rapid growth without sacrificing profitability. Many digital banking challengers in emerging markets accept extended loss periods as a cost of building scale. TBC has maintained financial discipline through efficient digital acquisition — where in-house technology reduces the cost per customer materially — and through improving revenue per user as customers deepen their engagement across multiple products and services.

This combination of scale, engagement depth, and sustained profitability is what distinguishes TBC Uzbekistan from earlier-stage digital banks and what gives Euromoney’s recognition its weight. It reflects a business that has validated its model at volume, across a genuinely competitive and fast-moving market.

TBC Uzbekistan enters 2026 as the recognized benchmark for digital banking in Central Asia — with the infrastructure, user base, product breadth, and financial performance to substantiate that standing. As the regional market continues to digitize and competitive pressure intensifies, the bank’s proprietary technology foundation, two-sided ecosystem design, and AI-enabled operating model provide advantages that compound over time and become increasingly difficult to replicate. The Euromoney award marks a moment of recognition, but the trajectory it reflects is the product of disciplined, sustained execution across technology, product development, and organizational culture.
